Open letter on the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025.
My name is Andreas Freier, and I am internationally active as Reverend Elvis and A.E.Freier as a musician, publicist and freelance artist. I live and work in Chemnitz and was born here. Like many Chemnitz people and Chemnitz cultural workers, I was very happy about the application and the award of the city of Chemnitz to the European Capital of Culture 2025.
From the very beginning I got involved and wanted to use my energy, work and contacts for it. It quickly became clear that this was not at all desirable and that the people in charge had closed their doors. There was no interest for the city administration and the internally founded GmbH in cooperating with Chemnitz cultural institutions and creative artists.
This is not only an incredible presumption and disregard for the people and the work of others, this was also confirmed and documented by the „Second Monitoring“ of the EU Commission. How does this disregard for the work of Chemnitz cultural institutions and cultural workers come about? How can it be justified that office employees of the city administration presume to be better at the work of others? Work that requires a high level of skill and experience? Why doesn’t the city administration also bake the bread for the city? Or provides the candidates for the next Olympic Games?
As an artist from Chemnitz, I ask the city and the GmbH to immediately take their rightful place and approach the citizens of Chemnitz, the cultural institutions of Chemnitz and those involved in culture to possibly save something. If the circumstances remain so, it will end in disaster.

sehr geehrte Damen und Herren.
Offener Brief zur Kulturhauptstadt Chemnitz 2025.
Mein Name ist Andreas Freier und ich bin als Reverend Elvis und A.E.Freier als Musiker, Publizist und freier Künstler international tätig. Ich lebe und arbeite in Chemnitz und bin hier geboren. Wie viele Chemnitzer und Chemnitzer Kulturschaffende habe ich mich sehr über die Bewerbung und den Zuschlag der Stadt Chemnitz zur europäischen Kulturhauptstadt 2025 gefreut.
Von Anfang an habe ich mich engagiert und wollte meine Kraft, Arbeit und Kontakte dafür einsetzten. Schnell wurde klar, dass das gar nicht erwünscht war und man bei den Verantwortlichen vor verschlossenen Türen steht und seitens der Stadtverwaltung und der intern gegründeten GmbH kein Interesse zur Zusammenarbeit mit den Chemnitzer Kultureinrichtungen und Kulturschaffenden bestand oder besteht.
Das ist nicht nur eine unglaubliche Anmaßung und Missachtung der Menschen und der Arbeit anderer, das wurde auch durch das „Second Monitoring“ der EU-Kommission bestätigt und dokumentiert. Wie kommt es zu dieser Missachtung der Arbeit der Chemnitzer Kultureinrichtungen und Kulturschaffenden? Wie lässt sich das begründen, dass sich Büroangestellte der Stadtverwaltung anmaßen, die Arbeit andere besser zu können? Arbeit, die ein hohes Maß an Können und Erfahrung voraussetzt? Warum bäckt die Stadtverwaltung nicht auch das Brot für die Stadt? Oder stellt die Kandidaten für die nächste Olympiateilnahme?
Als Chemnitzer Künstler bitte ich die Stadt und die GmbH unverzüglich den ihr gebührenden Platz einzunehmen und auf die Chemnitzer Bürger, die Chemnitzer Kultureinrichtungen und Kulturschaffenden zuzugehen, um eventuell noch etwas zu retten. Bleiben die Umstände so wird es in einem Desaster enden.
